Taking the steep hiking trail up the bluffs just off the Great River Road leaves one winded but at once rejuvenated when you first see the birds-eye view of the mighty Mississippi. This particular scenic outlook lies just before the Miss’ forks, and the Illinois River rushes up to the north. My girlfriend at the time assured me the trying hike was worth it. I was so happy she brought me. Fairly strong winds coming off the water and whipping over the bluffs nearly erode all noise pollution of the nearby highway leaving for a much more intimate feeling. We held each other for awhile enjoying the view and feeling like we were the only ones left in the world.
